Macleans College students excel in challenging orienteering conditions
Posted on May 08, 2025
Challenging terrain, unpredictable weather and fierce competition set the stage for the North Island Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships.
The competition included three events: a sprint series at Wesley College, followed by a long series and relay series held at Muirs Farm in Karioitahi.
These events attracted strong competitors from across the North Island. Macleans College was well represented, with 21 students competing in the sprint series, eight in the long series and three teams in the relay.
At Wesley College, competitors faced unfamiliar terrain during the sprint event. The terrain at Muirs Farm added difficulty to both the long and relay events. Challenging weather during the relay - marked by rain, wind and fog - demanded strong navigation skills and physical endurance.
Despite these conditions, Macleans College students displayed commendable sportsmanship, resilience and a positive attitude. The event proved to be a valuable character-building experience.
