Macleans College students achieved outstanding results at the 2026 Hanzi Heritage Award, a competition that celebrates excellence in Chinese hard-pen calligraphy.
Their success reflects both their dedication to language learning and their mastery of this traditional art form.
Organised by the Elevate Youth Foundation, the competition was open to secondary school students from across Auckland. Participants were invited to showcase their skills in Chinese character writing through hard-pen calligraphy, demonstrating accuracy, technique and attention to detail.
Chinese calligraphy has long been regarded as an important part of Chinese culture and heritage. The practice of writing Chinese characters with precision and elegance requires patience, focus and consistent effort. The students' achievements reflect the dedication and perseverance required to develop these skills while building a deeper understanding of Chinese language and culture.
A special congratulations goes to Fiona Chen (Te Kanawa House), who received the Adjudicator's Choice Award for achieving the highest overall score in the competition.
The school also acknowledges all participating students for their commitment and excellent efforts. Their achievements are a testament to the hard work they have invested in developing their Chinese language and calligraphy skills.
Macleans College looks forward to seeing more students explore Chinese language and culture, while continuing to develop their appreciation for the art of Chinese character writing.
