Three ensembles represent Macleans College at NZCT Chamber Music Contest

The annual NZCT Chamber Music Contest brought together some of the region's most talented young musicians, with several Macleans College ensembles taking the stage to showcase their performance skills and months of dedicated preparation.

The regional round was held at the new performing arts centre at Diocesan School for Girls. Macleans College was represented by three ensembles performing a varied programme of chamber music.

The Aurafarmers, comprising Eric Yao (Upham House) (violin), Chloe Lu (Hillary) (cello) and Selina Wang (Upham) (piano), performed Mendelsohn’s Piano Trio no.1 - first movement.

Trinity Brass and Ivory, featuring Kyan Zhang (Batten), Edgar Xie (Upham) and Max Mao (Rutherford) (horns), with Daniel Lee (Upham) (piano), performed Landscapes by James Naigus.

The Macleans Flute Quartet, made up of Phoebe Liu (Hillary), Natalie Choi (Rutherford), Angela Zhao (Snell) and Bianco Chow (Te Kanawa), performed Chats by Marc Berthomieu.

While the ensembles did not progress beyond the regional round, the students represented the school with professionalism and commitment. Through the rehearsal process, they further developed their musicality, ensemble awareness and performance skills.

With this year's contest now complete, many students are already considering repertoire choices for 2027 and future performance opportunities.

Students interested in participating in the Chamber Music programme in 2027 are encouraged to watch the daily notices for registration information or speak with Dr Miles.
