Learning Support students visit Mt Wellington Ambulance Station

Posted on July 03, 2025

Macleans College Learning Support students are currently studying the cardiovascular and respiratory systems in science class.

To support their learning, the students visited the Hato Hone St John Ambulance Station in Mt Wellington, accompanied by their science teacher Miss Naude and teacher aide Mrs Baird.

They were warmly welcomed by Peter Holloway, a Watch Operations Manager and Paramedic. Peter gave the students a guided tour of the ambulance, where they took turns acting as patients while having their heart rate and oxygen levels monitored.

During the visit, Peter explained the functions of the heart and lungs and discussed common conditions affecting these organs. He also demonstrated the use of a nebuliser mask.

To conclude the visit, the students were thrilled to see the ambulance lights and hear the emergency sirens in action.

Macleans College thanks Peter and the team at Hato Hone St John for providing an engaging, real-world learning experience that brought classroom science to life.
