Year 9 ESOL students explore innovation at MOTAT

Posted on July 07, 2026

Macleans College’s Year 9 ESOL students recently visited the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) for a day of hands-on learning.

As New Zealand's largest transport and technology museum, MOTAT uses interactive exhibitions and education programmes to showcase the innovations and inventions that have shaped New Zealand.

The excursion supported the class's current study of inventions and innovation, giving students the opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world examples. As they explored MOTAT's interactive exhibits, students discovered how technological advances have shaped everyday life and gained a deeper understanding of the people and ideas behind many important developments.

Students also took part in an engaging education session led by MOTAT educator Jasmin Pilkington. Through interactive activities and discussions, they explored key concepts while asking questions and making connections to their classroom learning.

The school extends its thanks to Jasmin for sharing her knowledge and helping make the experience both enjoyable and educational. Appreciation is also extended to Mrs Restauro, Mrs Shipway and Mr King for organising the excursion and supporting students throughout the day.
