Posted on June 12, 2020

Update 14 August 2020

Due to the current COVID situation, the ICAS assessments due to commence next week have now been postponed for all subjects - Science, Mathematics, Digital Technologies and English.

These will now be held in October.

Further details with the confirmed dates for each subject will be sent to those students concerned soon.

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Macleans College will again be participating in the world-renowned ICAS Assessments this year.   ICAS is developed by UNSW Global; a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of New South Wales.

This year, ICAS assessments will be offered for students in Years 9-11 only in the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Science and Digital Technologies.

Each assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by providing opportunities for recognition.   Every student will receive a certificate and an online result report.    Top performers will be eligible for medals and invited to attend special award ceremonies to have their academic excellence publicly recognised.

Participation in ICAS assessments is not compulsory. The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment.    The students will be presented with high-quality, expert-developed questions, allowing them to apply their learning without the need for prior study or revision.

Please note that ICAS assessments are now completed online, a move that reflects a sector-wide transition to computer-based assessment.   This allows greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results.

These assessments will be completed before school, commencing at 7.30am on the dates listed below.   Students should have a suitable BYOD device, e.g. Laptop, iPad or Android tablet, to complete the assessment.

The entry fee is $15.00 per subject.   For Year 11 students please note that the Digital Technologies and Mathematics assessment dates coincide with the senior exam week and tournament week.

  • Science – Tuesday 18 August 2020
  • English – Tuesday 25 August 2020
  • Digital Technologies – Thursday 27 August 2020
  • Mathematics – Tuesday 1 September 2020

Please return the permission slip and entry fee to the accounts department by Friday 24 July 2020 so that orders can be placed.  Please note we are unable to accept entries after this date.
