International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) 2019

Posted on June 13, 2019

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Macleans College will again be participating in the world-renowned ICAS Assessments this year.   ICAS is developed by UNSW Global; a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of New South Wales.

ICAS assessments cover all year levels from Years 9-13, designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing and Digital Technologies.

Each assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by providing opportunities for recognition.   Every student will receive a certificate and an online result report.    Top performers will be eligible for medals and invited to attend special award ceremonies to have their academic excellence publicly recognised.

Participation in ICAS assessments is not compulsory. The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment.    The students will be presented with high-quality, expert-developed questions, allowing them to apply their learning without the need for prior study or revision.

Please note that ICAS assessments are now online, a move that reflects a sector-wide transition to computer-based assessment.   This allows greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results.

These assessments will be before school, commencing at 7.30 am on the following dates.   Students should have a suitable BYOD device, e.g. Laptop, iPad or Android tablet, to complete the assessment.

The entry fee is $15.00 per subject as follows.   For senior students please note that the Digital Technologies and Science assessment dates coincide with the senior exam week and tournament week.

  • Digital Technologies – Tuesday 3 September– available up to Year 11 ($15.00)
  • Science – Thursday 5 September 2019 ($15.00)
  • Writing – Tuesday 10 September 2019 ($15.00)
  • English – Tuesday 17 September 2019 ($15.00)
  • Mathematics – Thursday 19 September 2019 ($15.00)
  • All of the above ($75.00)

Please return the permission slip and entry fee to the accounts department by Friday 2 August 2019 so that orders can be placed, we are unable to accept entries after this date.
