Former Student Nominated for an International EMMY Award

An episode of Al Jazeera English’s Newsgrid, hosted by former Macleans College student and Kupe House Captain Kamahl Santamaria (1993 – 1997) has been nominated for an International EMMY award.

The interactive news programme Newsgrid, produced special in-depth analysis and reporting on the blockade imposed on Qatar by neighbouring countries.  Their coverage of this event has been nominated in the News/Current Affairs category.

Kamahl is the principal presenter of Newsgrid, since its launch in November 2016.  Based in Qatar, he has worked at Al Jazeera since 2005.

NewsGrid is a nightly news programme, airing at 1500GMT on Al Jazeera English and streaming online through Facebook and YouTube.  The programme can be viewed in New Zealand on Sky TV channel 90 at 3.00 am.

Kamahl previously worked for Mediaworks NZ and Sky News Australia.  He will be travelling to New York for the awards ceremony on 1 October
