Dear Parents and Caregivers

I trust everyone is coping as we continue to deal with a rapidly changing situation.   Your sons and daughters displayed great calm and maturity as we exited school yesterday.   Our staff did a great job of managing the situation.   Well done to all.

As the country moves to a Level 4 alert, the school will be shut.   Please do not come in to school.   All facilities are closed.

Remote Learning

We have been preparing for this situation and remote lessons have begun.   All classes have a Google Classroom, which students must follow.

The remote learning model is quite different from what we are used to with face-to-face instruction supplemented by digital learning.    We are now solely digital and this will require staff and students to modify habits and expectations.   Feedback from today’s lessons has been very positive.

Term Dates

Our remote learning will continue until Friday 3 April.   We will then take a two week break before resuming on-line delivery on Tuesday 21 April.

I appreciate this is a variation on what was released centrally.   Our teachers have units of work planned and we want to maintain our learning momentum.   We also want the new habits associated with remote learning to become established before we take a break.

Senior students with NZQA and Cambridge assessments may be anxious about their progress toward their qualification.   It is important students continue to follow the remote learning programme.

For NCEA students, the work submitted may be used as evidence towards achievement standards.

For Cambridge students, the progress through the curriculum is important.

The external assessment situation will not become clear until we are back in school.  For now, please follow the course on Google Classroom.

I will continue to give updates as necessary from home.

Take care.

Ngā mihi
