| Upham House prefects with Miss Upham. |
| Amanda Upham, the daughter of the World War Two twice winner of the Victoria Cross, Charles Upham, attended the Upham House ANZAC Service this morning. |
| Miss Upham has visited annually since the house was built and opened eight years ago. |
| She said it was a pleasure to be back again and then spoke about her father as a friendly, quiet unassuming man who had a distinct advantage of being able to lead during war time. |
| When Charles Upham was asked to rescue a platoon, a dangerous mission, he and another soldier undertook the task. |
| Mr Malcolm Cordukes, the President of the Howick Returned Services Association, spoke about the massive number of soldiers who were killed at Gallipoli saying, “We remember them too well”. |
| He gave a clear history of the Gallipoli campaign. (Senior Macleans student, Meaghan Li, is currently on her way with the official New Zealand party to attend the ANZAC commemorations there). |
| Head of Upham House, Sue Rivalland, spoke about the sacrifices that had been made to preserve peace in the world. |
| The Principal, Byron Bentley, the Deputy Principal, Jim Lonergan, and Deputy Upham House Leader, Brian Peel, were in attendance. |
