Changeover to Summer Uniform

During the first two weeks of Term 4 students may wear either full winter or full summer uniform. On Tuesday 24 October all students should be in full summer uniform. The Uniform Shop will be open 3 days per week from 8.00 am to 9.00 am for the first two weeks of the fourth term. Dates are as follows:

First Week           - Monday 9 October, Wednesday 11 October, Friday 13 October

Second Week    - Monday 16 October, Wednesday 18 October, Friday 20 October

After Labour Weekend, the Uniform Shop hours will resume to Wednesdays from 8.00 am to 9.00 am as usual.

Fee-Paying International Students

We have currently 7 students with 6 pending for 2001. The whole system of enrolment and placement has been worked through well and we have an efficient programme up and running.

PTA Work Day

Work Day occurred on Monday 4 September and was very successful. Just under $30,000 as at 15 September has been raised. Our thanks go in particular to Mrs Brennan for her co-ordinating of this work.

2001 Enrolments

We had a very successful enrolment week during 29 - 31 August here at the school and all staff were very impressed with the calibre of the students that we enrolled.

PTA Germanfeist - Saturday 9 September

This was a most enjoyable occasion and it was great to see such a huge turnout of parents. Many thanks are due to the hard-working members of the PTA for their organisation and work.

Retirement Commissioner's Schools' Competition

The Macleans College team of Amelia Tsang, Janice Chow, Louisa Tse, Matthew Toy and Whiter Tang were runners up in this competition. They won a trip to Wellington, accompanied by Mr Phillips, where the final results were announced. As runners-up the Macleans team won $4,000 for themselves and $6,000 for the school. This is a tremendous feat and another Macleans team were short-listed consisting of Raymond Chang, Gareth Evans and Ee Chang.

Himalayan Adventure Group 2001

A group of students from the school will be travelling to Nepal in April next year. They will be there for three weeks and will be involved with trekking and helping to support the work of Sir Edmund Hillary. Each student is required to fund raise a substantial part of the $5,000 cost. If you or your business are able to provide jobs, either one off or ongoing, could you please contact the group leader, Mr Noel Bungay, on 535 2620, extension 855.

Manukau City Science Fair

First Prizewinners in their category in the Merck Sharp & Dohme Manukau City Science and Technology Fair held recently. were:

   Blazej Kot, Category 10 Electricity, Electronics and Communication

    Ellen Church, Category 11 Light, Sound and Heat

    Emma Rankin, Category 13 Engineering and Applied Physics

    Nick Parker and Kerhan Woo, Category 15 Planet Earth and Beyond

 

National Bank Junior Mathematics Competition

242 students from Macleans College entered the National Bank Junior Mathematics Competition held earlier this year. This is a difficult competition open to students in Forms 3, 4 and 5. Our students performed very well with three receiving prizes for coming in the top 30 in New Zealand in their form level. They are:

Form 4 Rainbow Bin, Kelvin Liou

Form 5 Annelies Naus

The following 12 students received Top 100 Certificates as they were placed in the top 100 in the country in their form level:

Form 3 Steve Whitford, Lester Su, Cameron Maingay, Heusen Lee, Sunny Chen, Raymond Chan

Form 4 Eric Yu, Jared Marshall, Kevin Hsu, Jonathon Burgess

Form 5 Mei-Lam Wong, Hecy Su

In addition to these a further 26 students received Top 200 certificates and another 50 received Merit certificates for coming in the top 15% in New Zealand. Congratulations and thanks go to the Mathematics Department and Mrs Beaumont.

Counties Manukau Drug Prevention Education Campaign
