Macleans College entered a team of 45 athletes into the Auckland Secondary Schools Aerobic Gymnastics Championships held at the Raye Freeman Centre, Epsom Girls Grammar on Saturday 20 June. Macleans College was entered into six categories and placed first in five of them. The team is a real force to contend with and dominated the competition in talent, performance and noise when supporting the team. Thanks goes to the fantastic coaching of Alice Prebble, Tayla Ramsey, Charlotte Bass, Nicole Killip and a wonderful group of committed Year 11 helpers. Congratulations to;

In a 50km race held on 9 May at Muriwai beach Dominic was placed 3rd in a time of 1 hour 17 minutes 22 secsonds. This was only 2 minutes behind the second kart and 8 minutes behind the winner who was the inventor of the Blokart.
Last Sunday 21 June eight teams from Auckland, Bay of Plenty and Waikato Blokart Clubs competed in a teams racing competition. Congratulations to Fraser Matthews of Upham who was a member of the winning team.
Cycling
Junior Boys A have eroded the difference between themselves and winning from 40 seconds in Race One to seven seconds. They were also at least 15 seconds ahead of 3rd place! (only one second ahead of third place in Race Three).
Chess
The premiere chess team has advanced to the Auckland finals with three wins, a draw and one loss in the preliminary rounds. The B team and the Junior team also have both advanced to the Auckland finals.
Basketball - Boys
U17 had a hard fought victory 31-24 in which the Macleans team showed great discipline to overcome the St Kentigern team.
Basketball - Girls
Open Girls won 87–48 against McAuley College. An excellent effort from all team members. Jessica Glennie’s strong defence and well-anticipated intercepts contributed greatly to this high scoring game.
Hockey - Girls
2nd XI won 1-0 against Aorere College.
Hockey - Boys
U15 Macleans totally dominated a depleted Kelston team who were out skilled and defensively weak. Murari Ramesh prowled in the opposition penalty circle and scored seven of the team’s goals. Final score 13 – 1 win to Macleans.
Rugby
The 1st XV beat Howick on Saturday 37-5. It was a keenly contested match against our traditional rivals with a good crowd in attendance. Tries were scored by Alex Morrison, Matt Pilkington, Sam Busbridge and two by Daniel Martin. The team have finished top of their pool and now begin the Championship round.
Netball
Premier
Epsom Girls Grammar is the team in Premier Grade with the least goals scored against them, and this was obvious with their superior defensive game. Their shooters rarely missed. Congratulations to Sarah Riley for another consistently good strong game in WD and Annalise Klay for a strong game in Centre. Jessica Martin had an impact in the game too. Next week we take on Diocesan at 10.30am on Court B. We will be looking for a huge improvement with players moving to attack the ball and drive through the court strongly.
A good team win for the Senior A last weekend against Glendowie. Final score 27-22. Team confidence has grown with each win. The shooting partnership of Roxy and Shelby is paying dividends for the team. The mid court combination of Hannah and Ashleigh linked well throughout the court. Their dynamic play and great vision delivered the ball straight down the court into the shooters awaiting hands. Our fantastic defence trio restricted the opposing team to three goals in the final quarter. Great intercepts from Melanie and tight marking from Emma and Paige secured our win. Special thanks to Emily Fitzgerald for filling in. Senior B had a tough game against Southern Cross Campus top team. We lost 28-18, had a struggle in the first three quarters but lifted our game in the last quarter beating them 8-4. Outstanding game with lots of tips and intercepts by Sinead Lunt and Mikaila Harris. 10A girls played against Epsom Girls Grammar in a hard fought game. It was made harder by most of the girls suffering from the flu. They still gave it 100% and secured a 31-23 win. Well done to the girls for lifting their effort each week. 10B played against Diocesan College and secured a pleasing win 15-12. The girls should be congratulated as they are stepping up and dealing with quite a few injuries to players at present. 9B team played Diocesan College and unfortunately went down by one goal 20-19. The girls all played a great game and every single one of the girls stepped up their game. Laura shot amazingly, and kept her cool under the huge amount of pressure and Cheri was great on defence, picking up lots of ball.
Soccer - Girls
Congratulations to the 1st XI for winning their game on Wednesday night 5-4. This means that we are in the final next week. Good luck girls! 3rd XI drew nil all against Howick College.
