The Auckland Anniversary Regatta was held recently with two students from Macleans involved through the sea scouts rowing and sailing regatta. James Hayter from Mansfield and William Francis-Dittmer from Rutherford came 1st in Rowing, 2nd in Sailing Handicap and 2nd Aggregate.
Swimming
The National Age Group Championships were held in Wellington between
3 - 7 March. Corey Main from Kupe won 9 National Titles and Jeffrey Arona-Tuifana’e from Batten set a New Zealand Long Course record in the 14 years 50m Breaststroke.
The results are as follows.
Corey raced in the 14 Year boy’s events winning the 200m and 400m Individual Medleys, 200m Butterfly, 100m and 200m Backstroke, 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m Freestyle, with a second place in the 100m Butterfly.
Jeffrey also competed in the 14 year boys events winning the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke and placed 3rd in the 200m Individual Medley.
World Tennis Squad
Cameron Norrie from Snell house has won selection for the 14 and under New Zealand Junior Tennis Team that will compete in Malaysia in May. He has represented New Zealand in Australia on three separate occasions. Congratulations and good luck Cameron!
Counties Manukau Athletics
Counties Manukau Secondary School Athletic Championships were held on Wednesday with a number of final events held on Thursday night.
Congratulations to the following Macleans Relay Teams.
Rachel Martin and Harriet de Jong both from Upham, Amy Botha and Carissa Garcia both from Te Kanawa won the Junior Girls 4 x 100m relay. Matthew du Plessis and Darren Wilson both from Snell, Chavez Glozier from Mansfield and Kelvin Wan from Kupe placed 3rd in the Intermediate Boys 4 x 100m relay.
Katie Watt from Hillary, Sonia Lovemore from Snell, Lydia Carter from Rutherford, and Chloe Osborne from Batten won the Intermediate Girls 4 x 100m relay.
Kimberley Taylor from Snell, Brooke Rhode from Batten, Mikyla Davidson and Gina Morrissey both from Snell placed second in the Senior Girls 4 x 100m relay.
Individual Event 800m -
Briar Guy from Snell placed 3rd in the Junior Girls, Genevieve Smaill from Hillary placed 3rd in the Intermediate Girls, Ray Wang from Batten won the Junior Boys, Sebastian Thompson from Upham also came first in the Intermediate Boys and Lachlan McNie from Snell placed 2nd in the Senior Boys.
Tennis
Senior Boys A1 tennis team beat Auckland Grammar 1. The conditions to start were wet and slippery but improved to extremely hot and sunny by the end of the match. Scott Peterson, Aaron Hicks and Cameron Norrie all won their singles. Scott and Aaron also won their doubles and Charlie Wang won the decider singles game 6-4. Well done Charlie! Intermediate A2 Girls team won 7/2 against Diocesan 2. A great score with promise of more such wins to come.
