Top honours for Macleans College Choir
Four choirs from Macleans College took part recently in the Auckland region of the Big Sing Competition.
Two all comers choirs Maleficent (boys) and Da Capo (girls) represented themselves and the college superbly with their dynamic and enthusiastic performances. The two premier choirs showed their class in the toughest of the nationwide regions, with Cantabile (Premier girls’ choir) being awarded Highly Commended and runner up for both the classical composition and New Zealand/Pacifica categories.
The Macleans College Chorale, which has doubled in number since 2016, showed a magnificent development since last year and received the Runner Up Award for the Auckland region, coming a close second to last year’s nationwide winners Choralation.
Topping the awards however, the Macleans College Choir were presented with the Te Tohu Manu Waiata award, for the best performance of a work using a Maori text - performing a newly commissioned work, Kia Kaha by Kate Bell. The choir were also runners up for the A Cappella award and Festival Recital Programme where they received a very well deserved Distinction award overall.
