Year Thirteen Geography Field Trip
On Wednesday 25 May Year 13 Geography students went on a field trip to Muriwai Beach as part of their inquiry into the operation of coastal processes.
The day was high energy as 50km winds and a big NW swell showed dramatically how wave and wind energy operate to shape the physical morphology of this coastal environment. Around the headland of Otakamiro Point the waves were spectacular crashing into the cliff faces and sending up showers of spray.
Despite the massive waves the students were able to collect their data on longshore drift and photograph the features and processes on display which will give them extra insight into their coastal study.
