James Holt from the Auckland City Mission said that their biggest event for the year was providing Christmas dinner and this year they were catering for about 2000 people, an increase from the 1600 last year.

“This is for the isolated, the elderly, refugees and others,” he said. “We also expect to give thousands of toys to children.”

Last year a thousand people assisted to make the dinner happen. Mr Holt said that the donations from the college would help the Mission to help people in need.

During the year the City Mission also helps people with alcohol and drug problems, maintains a food bank, runs a medical centre, looks after the homeless and runs a drop-in centre.
