A formal Maori welcome (powhiri) was extended to new international students at Macleans College today.
<empty>
Year 10 student, Monique Fitzpatrick, called the karanga as the international students entered the college assembly. Senior student, Reece Glozier offered the challenge (wero) after the haka had been performed and Brian Chan, from Hong Kong, accepted the challenge on behalf of the internationals. <empty>

Waiata (songs) were exchanged between the new students and the manuhiri (hosts) at Macleans College.
<empty>
Macleans College has the largest group of international students at any secondary school in New Zealand. Many students come to Macleans as the college offers the
Cambridge International Examinations as well as the National Certificate for Educational Achievement.

The college is located in the popular coastal resort of Bucklands Beach in East Auckland.
