Sir Edmund at Macleans College

Sir Edmund Hillary, the famous mountaineer who was first to reach the summit of Mt Everest in 1953, was at Macleans College today.

Sir Edmund attended Hillary House assembly where he was given a cheque for $5000 to help people in Nepal as part of the Himalayan Trust.

Year 9 student Heidi Tan handed the cheque to Sir Edmund on behalf of the house. The house was named after Sir Edmund.

The money came from fund raising by Hillary House members and has become an annual event.

Sir Edmund thanked  Hillary house for their efforts on behalf of the Sherpa people of Nepal saying the money would help in health and  education.
