| About BBYC and BBYC Sailing Academy |
| Bucklands Beach Yacht Club, formed in 1949 is an incorporated club consisting of three distinct sections. They are: |
| Keel Boat Division |
| Our keelboat division has sailing all year round with the traditional fully crewed racing events on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. We race on Saturdays throughout the year. There is family cruising, rum racing, ladies racing and short-handed sailing. We also conduct special events including our Motuihe Regatta and regional and national championships. |
| Launch and Power |
| This section is for those who have an interest in power boating, fishing, diving, cruising and model yachts. |
| Centreboard |
| Our division for centreboard boats including international classes such as the optimist, 420 and Laser/Laser Radial. The NZ classes include P class, Starling and Sunburst's. Many of our centreboard sailors also compete on the keelboards during the mid-week club racing and regattas. The Academy provides education and training programs for all of these sections but is primarily involved in Centreboard and Keelboat training activities. |

| Bucklands Beach Yacht Club is based in the eastern suburbs of Auckland with the Tamaki River at our front door. We have panoramic views of the Tamaki Estuary and Hauraki Gulf and with Rangitoto Island as a backdrop. |

| The club is approximately 40 minutes from the airport and 40 minutes from Auckland's central business district and downtown harbour. Access to the club is via car, bus or ferry. |

| Staff |
| Des Davies, Academy Director, has been professionally coaching since 2001. Prior to this his roles included Sales Manager for a Sailmaker and Manager for a Carbon Spar manufacturer in the UK. |
| Clifton Webb, Head Centreboard Coach, is an ex Olympian in the Finn and is a professional sailor and coach. |

| Training rooms for lectures with laptop, data projector, video and white board and all of the necessary on water training gear required. |
| The main clubhouse has a marina frontage with a restaurant, three bars and easy transport access. It is a popular and sociable family club. |
| An adjoining marina aptly named "Half Moon Bay Marina" with marine facilities such as boat builders, travel hoist and spar makers. They have dry sailing facilities with yachts such as Farr 40's and Etchell based from there. |
| The Centreboard clubhouse at Granger's Point has hard stand facilities with clubhouse and training resources. |

| We can deliver for all your sailing needs with fleet; match and teams racing training. Educational courses provide the necessary background qualifications to further your sailing career. And with "Yachting" a recognised sport with Macleans College you can attend and participate on a year round basis. |
| Current club members include; Olympic Medallists Bruce Kendall and Aaron MacIntosh who are based from BBYC training for 2008 Bejing Olympics in the Tornado. |

| What Opportunities are Available? |
| New Zealand is the land of opportunity, its an exciting country with a reputation for adventure, awesome scenery and sports people that strive for excellence. |
| The sailing opportunities are many, with New Zealand sailors recognised internationally as being world class. Tough on the water in competition but with the necessary sportsmanship. We can ensure you are trained in that manner. |
| The regatta's in NZ are varied and many starting with Sail Auckland, a Grade 1 ISAF event in February and forms part of a series with Sail Melbourne and the Sydney International Regatta sailing Olympic and invited Classes such as the Optimist and Splash. This regatta is in February every year. |
| Woman's Racing is highly competitive in NZ and Australia. With the woman's classes/divisions and match racing there is competiton and the opportunity to suceed. |
| 2007 is the year for the 420 Worlds in Nz. |
| 2008 the Laser Radial Worlds are here, RNZYS is hosting the Woman's Match Racing Worlds. |
| 2009 is the Asia Pacific J24's. |
| Match Racing and Teams Racing are big in New Zealand, with the Australian Regatta's only 3 hours flying time away it's easy to attend more regattas. Try the Harken Youth Match Racing at the Alfred's, Bavaria at CYCA in Sydney and the Youth International at RSYS in Auckland and Centerport Youth International in Wellington. |
| You can train in internationally recognised class's that are raced all over the world and be trained by coaches that have got results on the board. |
